RECENT SUBMISSIONS
Development Watch makes submissions to the Queensland State Government and the Sunshinecoat Regional Council on a range of topics. These include submissions on State planning laws and policies, Council's planning scheme and policies, as well as development applications. This page summarizes some of our recent submissions.

3 May 2010 - Submission to Sunshine Coast Council on New Planning Scheme, "Have Your Say About Your Place"
Development Watch provided input to Council's second round of public consultation on the New Planning Scheme.

April - May 2010 - Submissions on draft Structure Plans for Palmview, Maroochydore Central and Caloundra South
Council called for submissions on the draft Structure Plans for the new towns of Palmview and Caloundra South and for the redevelopment of Maroochydore Central. Development Watch provided many suggestions for improving these draft plans.

31 December 2009 - New Planning Scheme
Council released a number of draft strategies and discussion papers as part of its public consultation on the New Planning Scheme. Development Watch provided input on the following topics: Canelands, Flooding & Stormwater, Waterways, Sustainable Transport, Biodiversity, Climate Change and Affordable Living.

7 December 2009 - Submission to Sunshine Coast Council on the draft Statement of Proposals for the New Planning Scheme.
One of the key documents in preparing a new planning scheme is the Statement of Proposals. Development Watch provided input to Council on its draft Statement of Proposals.

14 October 2009 - Three-storey Duplex at Point Arkwright
Development Watch objected to a proposal for a three-storey duplex in Arthur St, Point Arkwright, because it was out of character with other residences in the street.

2 September 2009 - Submission to the Crime and Misconduct Commission on Changes to Urban Footprint Boundary
Development Watch has concerns about the propriety of changes made to the urban footprint boundary to accommodate an extension to the Coolum Waters Retirement Village. A request to investigate these concerns was made to the Crime and Misconduct Commission.

19 August 2009 - Shopping Complex, Hotel and Showrooms at Mudjimba
Surfing World Sunshine Coast Pty Ltd has submitted an application to construct a shopping centre on flood-prone land at Mudjimba. This proposal conflicts with many aspects of Maroochy Plan 2000, State Planning Policy 1/03 and the South East Queensland Regional Plan. Development Watch objected to this proposal in its entirety.

19 August 2009 - Coolum Waters Retirement Village
Sundale Garden Village Inc has made an application to extend the Coolum Waters Retirement Village by constructing 54 dwellings on flood prone land that is presently used as football fields. The subject land is part of a lot presently owned by the Department of Environment and Resource Management. Development Watch objected to this proposal in its entirety because it conflicts with high-order planning requirements for the area to which both the Applicant and the Sunshine Regional Council must defer.

11 August 2009 - Caloundra South Position Paper
The Caloundra South Position Paper proposes the development of a city on the Sunshine Coast that will house 50,000 people. This is a city comparable in population to Gladstone. Development Watch strongly objected to the scale of this development and to the inadequacy of the Position Paper.
