ABOUT US

Development Watch Inc is a group of individuals who care about the future of the Coolum district, on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. Our group was originally formed in 2004 to oppose an inappropriate development in Mount Coolum. We now monitor development proposals throughout the Coolum district and seek to influence those we believe are inappropriate.

We are a non-profit, non-partisan volunteer organization. We do not endorse or oppose political or local government candidates.

We do not share our mailing list with other organizations or individuals.

GOALS

* Prevent inappropriate development in the Coolum district

* Monitor the planning and decision-making processes that affect our district to make sure that planning schemes and laws are being properly implemented.

* Increase public awareness of important development issues that affect the long-term quality of life in our district.

* Promote population growth management practices that will control the rate of growth in our district to acceptable levels.

* Influence local economic development efforts towards local small businesses (rather than large out-of-town companies).

* Work closely with our elected officials and Council staff to ensure the consequences of development proposals are accurately assessed.

* Encourage greater public involvement in development issues by keeping our members and the general public informed about local government actions.

* Encourage policies and planning practices that preserve or enhance the quality of life in the Coolum district for both residents and visitors.
